Outside of flashing our balls at each other – it’s pretty accurate of my time working at a dennys

  2. therearnogoodnames

No weird games, but the shops I worked at were pretty tightly knit. We did party together, it was a good way to spend my 20s.

  3. PimpOfJoytime

    *documentary.

Seriously though, I’ve worked at mom&pops and in corporate kitchens (Applebees, chilis) and this was basically a documentary of corporate F&B. The mom&pop kitchens I worked in, people always gave a damn.

  4. itsaaronrogers

It’s one of the best early / mid 00s comedies.

Snapshot of outrageous stereotypes from a previous time in the industry. Even joking about some of that stuff will result in a trip to HR in 2025.

    Extremely funny.

  6. NeatWhiskeyPlease

Some of it didn’t age well but I’ll be damned if it’s not one of the most accurate restaurant movies.

Captures the experience for FOH and BOH pretty well.

    Carpe deez nuts

I cant wait to quit this job

  8. Sonikku_a

Everything in the movie happened at my first place over my 10 years there.

So them squeezing that into a few days or whatever may have been too much but yeah, seen some genitalia back then lmao

  9. PresenceActual4263

Accurate, and I’ve had a crush on angry bush since she was on Beakmans world.

  10. They nailed a lot of the FOH personalities and the general vibe of working at a chain in the 2000s.

Great flick, my dad had been in restaurants for 20+ years when we watched together and as soon as the white trash family walked in he started cracking up and said “well done with ketchup!”

I used this movie to get my asshole father to stop abusing restaurant staff. He’s still a dick but at least now he doesn’t mess with anyone who has access to food he’s going to eat.

  13. Dracekidjr

The only note I have is that a normal kitchen has more anger on a given day.

My kitchen time spanned from 1999 to 2006. Nearly my entire crew caught this in theater and we all agreed it was the restaurant version of office space. 8.5/10 for accuracy with a 10/10 for vibe. If your time came after my time it may be different but as someone who was a contemporary I assure you it’s pretty damned close to the way it was.

I have no thoughts. Now why don’t you JUST WASH THE FUCKING DISHES, AND SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!

  16. TheGreatBigMouse

I almost had to change it to the ten second rule

  17. scott3845

Luiz Guzmán is every corporate cook ever in this movie.

    Love it.

I’ve never worked anywhere that had the penis showing game (or other silly games). But showing the camaraderie that develops from working somewhere stressful and partying together after was pretty spot on.

Sure we might have left some silly (possibly offensive) joke on the whiteboard, or had a few inside jokes here and there but certainly not to the extent shown in Waiting. It’s all peace and love and we show it by trying to get a small rise out of each other or making fun of each other.

And God damn does it capture foh well. Walking back to get ice, all pissed off and cursing, and as soon as you turn around you are smiling and nice at the customers lol.

    Never mix Mexican and Continental!

Basically the Office Space for food service.

  20. That’s Naomi and she has worked here WAY too long

  21. Camulius73

I’ve worked with every single character in the movie.

  22. AggravatingWealth69

BOH accurate, FOH accurate, T-dawg Accurate. Ryan Reynolds’s trying to bang the under age hostess also accurate.
